Florilegium Cottage

We began 2016 with a major project to expand the store. Since the move from Parkville, we had been missing having a big gathering space. When my landlord said he could knock a hole in the wall and give us space in the next building, we were thrilled!

It all began with a huge mess.

the Doorway

image

We moved thousands of skeins of yarn and covered the entire store to make way for the doorway demolition.

The brick exterior walls of two buildings were exposed for the first time in over a hundred years.

image

The doorway – or Magical Mystery Portal – was sealed so the messy work on the other side stays on the other side.

It’s a happy day when the “Portal” is finally opened!

the Kitchen

The first big job, on the other side, was to remove the ancient kitchen cabinets and flooring.

The blank slate, ready for a new kitchen.

Lots of tiling is done, and the appliances can come in.

All of the big pieces are in – without one inch to spare.

But, we couldn’t have a bare cabinet. Thank heavens for the ultra-talented Mary Braet who came in and embellished the door in the theme of my tole tray collection.

the Dining Room

The view from the Magical Mystery Portal, through the kitchen, into the Dining Room.

Remember this photo? The old kitchen landed in the dining room before going to its final resting place.

Class Room

The same view with all new paint, lighting, furniture and artwork.

My favorite view of the new room is full of great people having fun.

Construction had already begun, but you can see what we started with.

The same view after a bit of fluffing.

And a lovely addition it is! Have taken two classes in the new addition. The new rooms are lovely but any class with Gretchen or one of the creative people she knows is ALWAYS wonderful.
