Curving ‘Round the Backside

Still assuming that this is a collar or neckline for……something….I am now working on the center back (the bottom right in the photo, above).

There’s a bit of a curve calling to me, so something round is in order. I’ll start with Bullions in a circle. ( ch3, join into a circle, ch2, work bullions into the space all the way around, slst into the top of the first ch2).

Choosing colors. Just throw a handful around it and see what makes your heart sing.

After the bullions, a round of half double crochets (hdc). I like these because they’re fat, and I can make one in every stitch without the piece getting ruffly.  (No thinking required!) Then, a round of clusters (3 dc in one stitch, ch1, skip a stitch and repeat all the way around). Turquoise popcorns in the ch1 spaces will be the finishing touch.

I’ve got to start bringing the top edge along, so some knit short rows in pink will do the trick. (Short rows make wedge shapes easy. Wrapping at the turn is not necessary, because the resulting holes can make a beautiful pattern, but I did wrap this wedge.).

Today’s small things.

(In the back of my mind, I’m wondering how I will bring that ribbon of yellow/purple slip-stitches back into play. Hmmmm.)

So sorry, Queenie!! These “One Small Thing a Day” posts are really meant for those who are working along with this Freeform piece. I had had requests to explain how a Freeform piece comes together, but I realize this will not be interesting for everyone.
