| After 12 years living on
the exterior of this land, I've returned home, to the midwestern interior. I've been
reaching out to other women artists in the area, and feel like I hit paydirt with the Art
Dollz group. I'm a nurse manager by day who keeps my fire burning by making my
art/soul. I discovered artmaking in the middle of my life, and am truly delighted, and
blessed! |

When Guidata came to me, she offered many opportunities for
participation. Her free spirit just required a pair of wings. As I chronicled in the
journal, I've experienced great integration of previous experiences and techniques and am
weaving them into each of the dollz. For Guidata's wings, I used a technique that I
"developed" (conjured with a touch of this and of that would be more like it):
painted Bondaweb, fused between 2 layers of chiffon, then machine embroidered, then
couching wire around the edge. I created this technique while creating a Lighthouse Angel
quilt for my dearest Aunt Betty, who loves lighthouses and who was diagnoses with ovarian
cancer. She is still going strong, and I offer Guidata's wings as a tribute to both of
them.

From her journal:
I really got in to the journal aspect of Guidata. Maybe it
was because of the extreme chaos in my life (in the middle of moving and remodeling)
or that my fabric studio was quite dismantled, or maybe because of late I've really been
drawn to journaling and paper-based art.
It looked to me like both Pam and Sherri had placed
pictures of their real or imagined grandmothers in Guidata's pouch. I thought she
was In The Company of Grandmothers. In the journal I pay tribute to my 2
grandmothers, my beloved Aunt Betty, and to many of the ideas I had for Guidata. Only some
have come to pass...maybe others will be picked up by other grandmothers who care for
Guidata.
