Paternayan Yarn Photos:
It’s an awesome time to stock up on Paternayan Yarn!
Get it before the price goes up! We have just had an increase in the cost of Paternayan, but we will keep our current low price through April. In May, the price will jump from $12.87 per 1/4 pound hank to $13.97. (Skeins will not increase.)
Paternayan is one of my all-time favorite yarns because it is SO versatile. It comes in 415 colors broken into gorgeous gradient ranges of 5 to 7 colors. It can be used for knit, crochet, needlepoint and felting. And – the coolest thing of all – it is a 3-ply strand that can be knit as worsted, sport or lace weight, or needlepointed on canvases from 10 to 18 mesh just by choosing one, two or three plies. If I am ever stranded on a desert island, I hope some Paternayan will float ashore!!!
Paternayan is a wonderful 3-ply, long-staple Persian wool suitable for needlepoint, knitting, felting, embroidery and antique rug repair. There are 418 colors in the Paternayan selection and we stock all colors in 1/4 lb skeins (167 continuous yards). We also sell Paternayan by the strand (32″) in a minimum quantity of 10 strands per color. We’ve included photos of the Paternayan color card to help you choose wool for your projects. Choose your colors, calculate the amount you’ll need, and then make your order. If you need assistance with any part of your order, please give us a call at 816-746-6164 or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
Needlepoint: If you are using Paternayan for a needlepoint canvas, then you need to calculate the proper number of strands for each color. The following instructions and table (at the bottom of the page) explain how Paternayan Persian Yarn covers the various canvas sizes.
Determine how much yarn you need as follows:
Measure the number of square inches of each color used in the canvas (we usually add 10% to 20% for the extra yarn it takes to start and stop a color). Measuring the various colors is the most difficult part and is easier if you use a template that is 1″ by 1″. Move the template around the canvas determining the total square inches of each color. Multiply the number of square inches for a color times the length of yarn needed to cover 1 square inch of canvas (from the chart below) then divide the total length of yarn by 32″ (the length of one 3 ply strand) – this equals the number of strands you need to cover this color. If the number of plies on the chart is less than 3, divide the number of strands by 3 and multiply that number times the number of plies used for the canvas size, from the chart below. Finally increase the number of strands by 20%.Quantity to cover 1 square inch of canvas
